The area of pensions, contributions and annuities has increasingly become a mainstream media focus in the UK. While many pension provisions in the private sector have been eroded over the years, the 2008 financial crisis ratcheted up changes.

This was with the coalition government's attempt at trying to tackle the deficient via constraints on the public sector. These are more highly unionised areas and where the deferred remuneration of a 'good' pension was part of the agreed bargain in terms and conditions.
